Generally speaking, you can’t go too wrong with a diet rich in whole foods and vegetables while at the same time understanding that eliminating entire food groups from your diet can put you at risk of low energy availability. In Football, like all sports, it is important that we are not only eating enough day in and day out for the training that we are doing, but also eating the right kind of macronutrients at the right time. Being mindful of what and when we are eating can help us boost performance and recovery.

New Zealand Football’s Player Welfare team are here to help our football communities learn, understand and apply nutritional principles for our footballers, taking the latest football specific research and consultation with HPSNZ Dieticians. To learn more, book a nutrition workshop for your club, or register for our free national Nutrition for Football Webinar this month.
