Hendricks to step down as Rapids head coach

Wesley Hendricks, who led the Waikato Rapids during the 2022 Ford Futsal SuperLeague season, has decided to step down as head coach ahead of the 2023 campaign. Wesley has signaled that he will be stepping down for the 2023 season to focus on his health.

"It was been a huge privilege to be appointed as the head coach for the Rapids. I have committed myself wholeheartedly to the role for over a year. I was pleased with the progress we made, being able to compete in the Ford Futsal Superleague during 2022, and working with our local players. We created some great stories both on and off the court, and it was rewarding to support some of our younger players in making their debut this season.

"I would not have been able to do this without the support of many highly committed and talented people across the WaiBOP region. Most unfortunately, undergoing a health scare has meant that continuing this role into the next season is just not possible at this stage, but it has been a genuine pleasure and I am definitely looking forward to a return."

We thank Wesley for his work with the Rapids and for the huge effort he has put in over the last 12 months. We look forward to working with him through the Titans club he runs, at the Youth Futsal Championships, and with other futsal projects in the future.
