Unsung Hero | Clive Luckhurst

Clive Luckhurst - nominated by Otonga Road FC.

"Clive has been a huge part of the club since 2014 when his son Elliott started to play, followed closely by daughter Lilly. Over the years Clive has progressed from sideline supporter to coach to committee member, holding down numerous roles (often more than one at once!) and giving his absolute all to each one.

"He has coached his own children’s teams and has also put up his hand up to coach other teams when no help could be found, ensuring that the children in those teams were able to practice and play each week. He ensures his teams foster a great team spirit and self belief and he imparts his knowledge in a patient and understanding way for his players.

"When we are the duty club on a Saturday Clive is always there from setup to pack down and on the BBQ in between while also coaching and/or reffing. The club is also thankful to partner Monique, daughter Lilly and Elliott who are also never far away from helping out, and they have even let us invade their home for committee meetings on numerous occasions, and with a cuppa and yummy baking to enjoy.

"And let’s not forget the storage of club gear in their shed!

Clive has been instrumental in keeping the club running. When you get emails at 2am with detailed reports around teams, finances, sponsorship and equipment, you know someone is doing their utmost for the local football club and community. This has been common practice with Clive. His efforts have helped to grow the club hugely in terms of player numbers and finances to the point where we are now the largest junior club in Rotorua, with a strong and safe financial base with which to attack the future.

"Clive’s children are now moving on to college football teams and Clive is retiring from the committee but he has made it known that he will still be around to answer questions, help out with fundraising bbq’s, and will continue to organise our Sunday afternoon fun kickarounds. This again highlights Clive’s commitment to the community.

"We feel that Clive deserves special recognition as he is the epitome of the values we strive to achieve within the club… he is committed to fair play, he is great leader and role model, he maintains a solid positive attitude towards the game, he strives to bring the best out in players, and is supportive and understanding.

"In short, he is a genuinely good, community minded person that the club is proud to have as a representative, typifying what we stand for and the values we uphold. Because of the above, for the last two years Clive has been nominated to receive our President’s Trophy, but we knew he would be too humble to accept and would rather it go to another member instead of himself.

"Hence this nomination goes a small way towards saying THANK YOU CLIVE for everything you have done for the club!

"Clive has gone above and beyond for ORFC and we are honoured to have him as part of it."

Clive receives a $75 meal voucher from Terrace Kitchen.
